The first time I starting using the installp version of openssl I had a lot of trouble as well.

Try doing a find for all openssl libraries - there may be some extra on you system.

Also, you can use dump -H on the sshd to see where it is looking by default for it's libraries and/or have you setup LIBPATH for anything?

This is an area I have been busy with for years - porting opensource packages to AIX for personal use (e.g. AAMP - AIX, Apache, Mysql and PHP). For example, for the rootvg site I compiled Apache and PHP and downloaded mysql from the mysql site.

I am currently busy with testing the portability of opensource software on AIX 6. The major lesson there is to have a very current version of autoconf (I am using 2.64 right now).

But - why this forum!

As a place to ask questions, and especially - provide answers. Rather than just be a respostory of software (which I am also working on) I want this to be an interactive forum of ideas and lessons learned.

And, although this is under an AIX forum banner - if you are doing anything with Linux on Power and opensource development - feel free to start a thread! If there is enough activity I'll start a seperate thread for that as well.
