Well, the 4th CEC you have two ports, but only one port group (that share all the MAC addresses with each other). So by having both ports in promiscuis mode, both were responding/reacting as one group.

That is what I suspected - although I must say it remains a guess as I do not have personal hardware to test. Had it been the two-port fiber - each port is a port-group.

How to test? well, use a similar setup but use a 4-port card. One port from the pair T1, T2; and one port from the pair T3, T4. And no other activity in the HEA.

Performance wise: as you have 6 port groups (one per two ports) you could assign upto 96 lhea and skip using SEA. As you want NIB or etherchannel redundancy that would mean you could support 48 partitions without needing SEA. lhea gives must better performance than SEA.

It is a 4 Drawer/Keg system.

1 - 2 ports
2 - 4 ports
3 - 4 ports
4 - 2 ports

I had it connected to Drawer 4 with 2x "regular" (copper) cables.

I have now moved them off the HEA into 2x Fiber Ethernet cards and it is working great.
I just want to know how to go about using those ports so that it works fine?

My first question: how many ports does your HEA have? two or four. If two, is it fiber channel or "regular" ethernet.

Hi,

I recently setup a VIO Server on a p6 570.
We had no Ethernet cards available, so we decided to use the LHEA(IVE).
I assigned 2 physical ports, and had to set them to Promiscuous mode to allow them to be created as a SEA, as it wont create it if it is not.
I first created an Etherchannel and then used that to create the SEA.
All worked fine and the VIO Client was configured and able to communicate over the network.

THEN  . . . . . . .

All networks started having problems and became very erratic.
On and off intermitently.
The strange thing is that all VLANs and networks were affected.

The network guys pointed it to be the IP that we had configured for the VIO Server.

I suspect that setting the ports to Promiscuous mode had caused this effect!

 Huh
Is there something that needs to be set on the switch or HMC that will prevent this from happening?
What else could have caused this?
