Install NIM - revisited PDF Print E-mail
Written by Michael Felt

This week I have been reviewing my HOWTO: Install NIM on AIX and made a few corrections (typos). One change concerns the value of an environment variable I use - ${OSLEVEL}.

When I first wrote the article I thought having the service pack id was useful. Believe me, it is not - just creates MANY lpp and spot levels where what I am really concerned about is the AIX_TL levels - because service packs are suppossed to be interchangeable.

Learning from IBM i - again! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Michael Felt

I read a lot of articles, some for fun, some to learn - and some to broaden my vision. I try to stay away from tunnel vision, or horse blinders - blinding myself from things I do not want to see - might be afraid to see.

Long intro - my apologies :) - The article I just read has SQL Server Not Best in the title. Not quite an FAQ... PDF Print E-mail
Written by Michael Felt
I am working on my FAQ but I have already noticed that several of my most popular links are probably better answers than I would give in an FAQ. To help with finding these articles I added a new post in the forums http://rootvg.net/smf/aix/most-popular-articles-on-rootvg-net/ or you could just use the menu entry that has been here for a long time: vgGuides.

Inspiration found: FAQ 'real soon' PDF Print E-mail
Written by Michael Felt

"Years" I have wanted to write a decent FAQ on AIX and "years" I have been having difficulities trying to come with good questions. I kept hoping the forums here would be overflowing with questions, but that has not been the case. Cry

However, the last two months I have been wondering the other sites - where people are asking questions - and guess what - I do not always like all the answers given - and that has inspired me to watch the web for recurring questions and get them consolidated into a FAQ - "real soon now"!

Registering for rootvg forums PDF Print E-mail
Written by Michael Felt
For years rootvg.net has used the policy that registations are manually approved. We also have some posting/registration guidelines that you should follow if you want to be sure I do not reject your registration. Unfortunately spam bots do register and fill the forums with trash. This manual process is part of what we do to combat nonsense/spam.
