Depending on the security settings of you system it may be possible to use the file ${HOME}/.netrc to automate downloading fixes.

The basic setup is quite simple, and many improvements are possible.

in ${HOME}/.netrc   # filemode 600

machine www7b.boulder.ibm.com login ftp password This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
macdef init
bin
cd /aix/fixes/pkgs/abcde/
prompt
dir
mget *
quit

The last part of the pathname will need to be edited to get to the correct directory. There are ways to automate this even further, but I dont update all that often - so a simple edit is fine for me.

To keep packages from being unecessarily large I recommend using the command lslpp -Lc to create a file with the filesets already installed on your system. Files that are already installed are not included in the list of files to be downloaded. Last time I used it it saved over 600M byte in uneeded downloads.

And if you are wondering where to find fixes - use vgBookmarks->Downloads->Maintenance ->Quick links for AIX fixes  (click here for a shortcut)
